Stuller’s Product Design & Development Department, or PD&D, turns ideas and images into finished works. Our team of conceptual and visual artists produces thousands of unique jewelry pieces each year, starting from a simple concept or sketch.

Everyone's really collaborating to create unique ideas, so there's a lot of unique personalities that really leads to a lot of different product that we're coming out with. 

To begin, PD&D is approached with an idea for a piece of jewelry. A conceptual designer then creates a sketch, either on paper or on a computer.

We'll put forward maybe 12 designs for Alix to review.  Once it comes back from the merchants they've picked one or two. So we have to do the top view, the front view, and the side view so that then we can pass it on to the CAD designers who will then work their magic on it.

The virtual design team decides how to further create these ideas based on how the jeweler will be able to adapt to any customer’s requests.

I consider it like brain games basically. We get pieces in that we are to create, and it's up to us to figure out how to model these things and get them ready to be sent to 3D printing.

After being built in the appropriate CAD software, the visual model is checked multiple times to ensure top quality production standards are met. Once approved, the design heads to our modeling department, to get ready for mass production.

What's really rewarding is actually seeing the physical product in the end. We actually get to see the samples as well as seeing it on the web and at trade shows. We really get the reward of seeing our products fully produced.
