Stuller's Sara Boudreaux gives you tips for sorting white metals in your mix.
Video Transcript
Do you need a quick and easy way to sort your white metals that got mixed? I'm Sara Boudreaux with Metals Technology. For this Stuller Hack I'll show you what to do.
For this hack the supplies are simple. You need your metal, iodine, and some tissue. Simply take the iodine and mark your metal in an inconspicuous spot because the discoloration is permanent. Take a tissue and wipe the excess away. Note the color that the iodine turns. On Stuller standard sterling silver, iodine will have a tan color. In Stuller's continuum sterling silver, it will turn black. On a tumbled 14-karat white, it will turn a bluish tint. And on platinum there will be no reaction. Simple as that.
