Casting Service

For your custom wax carvings and special "one of a kind" designs there is "no minimum order required." Typically you can supply us with a completed wax carving or pattern ready for sprueing and casting. We will contact you on it's arrival for any special instructions and get back with you with cost estimates, any change suggestions and approximate delivery schedules prior to beginning work.

We can cast your wax pattern in the following metals: 10kt yellow, 14kt yellow, 14kt X-1, 18kt yellow, 18kt white, 18kt palladium white, 14kt white, 10kt white, Platinum/Cobalt, Platinum/Iridium, Platinum/Ruthenium, 14kt red.

Any suggested modification and/or additional labor charges will be reviewed and discussed at the time of your work order estimate. After your approval of the estimate, the work order is submitted for casting.

Your product will be cast in the metal of your choice from those listed above. Your choices on types of finish are: raw casting (available in 6  working days) and semi-finished/tumbled (available in 6 to 8 working days).

Requests for wax carving services as well as CAD CAM files will be reviewed pending current available production capacity in those areas of manufacturing.

Shipping and Submission Instructions

Package your wax very carefully due to the delicate nature of the material. Stuller, Inc. does not assume responsibility for damage or lost merchandise during shipping.

You will be contacted with the date received, the approximate cost of the project and the back order date. If there should be any problems in casting, recast problems, pricing discrepancy or delays, you will be notified as soon as possible.

Things to keep in mind when sending your wax:

  • Avoid small gaps in design
  • Seal Prongs
  • No Cracks
  • Look for air bubbles near surface
  • No deep V's, add small touch of wax to corners, to prevent shrinkage
  • Make sure bearing or bezel is complete
  • If adding wax to an area, check to see if completely sealed all the way around
  • Clean off any flashing
  • Clean out pin holes
  • Look for heavy tools or file marks
  • Incomplete prongs
  • Dirty Wax (dust, metal shavings from files, etc.). If wax has foreign particles in it, then it may cause faulty casting
  • Look for wax flaking
  • Heavy pieces or very large pieces are not recommended for platinum iridium casting
  • Please do not sprue waxes as placement and size of the sprue is critical to successful casting

Approximate Cost Formula

Stuller wax to metal formula used to get approximate cost of project:

Platinum Castings:
  1. Wax weight in dwt X 21.56 X 15% = approximate metal weight in platinum as clip & ship or semi-polished casting.
  2. Multiply metal weight by the platinum semi-polished price per dwt for that day.  Please contact us for the current price per dwt, adjusted for the platinum market price in effect.
Other Castings:
  1. 14kt:  multiply wax weight by 14 = approximate metal weight 14kt

10kt:  multiply wax weight by 12 = approximate metal weight 10kt

18kt:  multiply wax weight by 16 = approximate metal weight 18kt

  2. Multiply metal weight by the semi-polished price per dwt.
