Our History

55 Years and Counting

Since our founding in 1970, we've grown rapidly and evolved to meet the demands of jewelers, and it's been an exciting five decades of doing just that. We couldn't be more excited to see what is on the horizon for us — yet it's inspiring to see how far we've come.

Check out some of our most significant milestones below to see how much we've grown.

1970

Road Runner

Driving a Nissan 240Z, Matt Stuller took to the road and founded the company that bears his name. He began simply with parts and pieces — findings — and a desire to provide speedy and friendly service to jewelers.

1972

Toll-Free Ordering

Stuller introduced toll-free telephone ordering, an early milestone in its high-caliber order fulfillment. This stood out at the time because no one else in the industry was offering this service to their customers.

1973

Prime Manufacturing

Becoming a prime manufacturer, which means the original point of creation for manufactured products, allowed Stuller to have greater control over consistency, quality, and selection of fabricated metals and more.

1982

Base of Operations

Stuller broke ground at the site of its current headquarters in Lafayette, Louisiana. Here, product offerings expanded from mill products to mass-produced findings, such as settings and one-piece rings.

1982

Next-Day Delivery

Matt Stuller believed in exceeding expectations within the industry when it came to order delivery. He nurtured groundbreaking partnerships with shipping carriers, who placed planes in Lafayette to accommodate Stuller’s business volume.

1988

Diamonds and Gemstones

Having carried only small precious stones up to this point, Stuller began selling diamonds and an expanded array of gemstones. Today, Stuller is one of the largest distributors of diamonds and gemstones in North America.

1995

Customization

Stuller made a monumental move toward the extensive customization options offered today with the Have It Your Way program — now expanded to the entire Stuller Custom Suite — which allowed unprecedented flexibility in designing custom jewelry.

1997

Tools and Equipment

To further support the various aspects of a jeweler’s daily needs, Stuller began offering tools and equipment. In 2003, Stuller acquired Swest, a Dallas-based company that catered to jewelry tools and supplies, to significantly growth the product category.

1998

On the Web

Stuller.com debuted to much acclaim. Today, it helps customers easily navigate millions of products and services, browse detailed descriptions, and place an order that is streamlined for efficiency.

2001

Headquarters Expansion

After doubling size in 1985, 1989, and 1994, Stuller expanded its global headquarters once again, adding 238,000 square feet for a total of 600,000 square feet, where it remains today.

2009

Interactive Events

Stuller launched its first Owners’ Conference, a gathering designed to help jewelers navigate the shifting terrain of the jewelry industry. Today, the event — now called Bridge® — is one of several held yearly to connect with customers.

2009

Gemvision Acquisition

Stuller acquired the assets of Gemvision, a leading innovator in design and customization software for jewelers. The collaboration signified Stuller’s emphasis on leading technological change and revolutionizing the in-store experience.

2010

Countersketch Studio®

Capitalizing on their strategic vision, Stuller and Gemvision released CounterSketch Studio (now called CounterSketch®), an intuitive jewelry design program meant to provide unprecedented personalization options for jewelers and their customers.

2012

SCS Recognition for Recycled Metals

Scientific Certification Systems (SCS), an independent, third-party auditing entity, certified that Stuller’s fabricated precious metals — including silver, gold, platinum, and palladium — are made with 100% recycled content.

2012

Customizable 3C Designs

To provide an interactive custom jewelry experience, Stuller launched a broad selection of rings and pendants that allow customers to change the center stone type, shape, and size as well as the metal quality and color with the click of a button, providing millions of possibilities.

2015

ever&ever®

Building on the success of customizable 3C mountings, Stuller released ever&ever® — a comprehensive, in-case custom bridal program. Paired with CounterSketch, design possibilities are truly limitless.

2015

Stuller First®

Extending a long tradition of setting the bar in customer fulfillment, Stuller introduced Stuller First, a customer membership program with discounted shipping prices, no minimum purchase requirements, and marketing support.

2016

Lab-Grown Diamonds

Stuller responded to consumer and customer demand by adding lab-grown diamonds to its inventory. Presently, Stuller’s approach to lab-grown diamonds is comprehensive, including loose and set products, testing and screening capabilities, and more.

2017

B&D Sales and Service Acqusition

Stuller announced the purchase of B&D Sales Corporation, a leading laser welder supplier located in Cranston, Rhode Island. As a result, customers can access a complete range of Orotig and SIRO Lasertec technology complete with service options.

2018

Strategic Service Agreement With GIA®

Stuller began a strategic service arrangement with GIA (the Gemological Institute of America). As an independent entity located within Stuller’s global headquarters, it is staffed by GIA’s screening specialists who use GIA’s proprietary technology to perform the screening.

2019

Responsible Jewellery Council Certification

To achieve this prestigious certification, Stuller met RJC’s Code of Practices, which respects human rights throughout the jewelry supply chain for diamonds, gold, and platinum group metals. Stuller has continued to maintain this certification.

2022

In-House Events Return

Following the global COVID-19 pandemic, Stuller brought back in-house events, such as Bench Jeweler Workshop, Bridge®, and trainings, signaling a return to normalcy and a welcome in-person reunion with the jewelry industry.

2024

Great Place to Work®

Through an employee survey focused on credibility, camaraderie, and respect, a consultant identified Stuller’s strengths as well as areas for improvement. The results of the survey led to Stuller being named a certified Great Place to Work.

2025

55th Anniversary

This milestone marks a new chapter in Stuller’s story — one that continues to place customers at the center. From the entire Stuller team, thank you for a wonderful 55 years.
